Mojang Bought by Microsoft
Quote from literally_stupid on 2014/09/16, 11:41As you may have heard, Mojang was bought off by Microsoft for a smooth 2.5 billion dollars.
In the Mojang post, Mojang stated that they have "worked closely with Microsoft since 2012, and have been impressed by their continued dedication to our game and its development." However, I remember when Windows 8 was first introduced to the public, Notch wasn't for the idea. He said that he didn't support the operating system because "it ruined the PC as an open platform." (https://twitter.com/notch/status/251239807257296897). Owen, who wrote the article, may have been told by Microsoft to say everything positive about the company (like most people who are sponsored are told to do) and not anything negative about it.
Many people think that Microsoft will completely change Minecraft by making strict copyright rules such as not being able to record videos of the game without violating the copyright terms. It is not for sure that this will happen, and the Mojang staff will still closely communicate with it's community via Twitter.
The founders of Mojang (Notch, Carl, and Jakob) have left Mojang for unknown reasons, but it probably won't have anything to do with Minecraft.
Modding and community contributions most likely aren't going to change, so mod-makers won't lose their hobbies anytime soon. "Minecraft will continue to evolve, just like it has since the start of development. We don’t know specific plans for Minecraft’s future yet, but we do know that everyone involved wants the community to grow and become even more amazing than it’s ever been. Stopping players making cool stuff is not in anyone’s interests."
So, while it is not for certain what will happen to Minecraft in the future, we can be for sure that a few of the future updates won't be the best, because let's be honest, it's Microsoft for crying out loud.
But, I look forwards to seeing Minecraft evolve further, but in the meantime, I'm busy with other things. Hope this kept you interested!Sources: https://mojang.com/2014/09/yes-were-being-bought-by-microsoft/
