New lighthing

I've seen on dinnerbone's twitter that he's tweaking the way lighting works. I can't google an answer so far. Does anybody know if light will still shine through slabs and stairs? If not, that would really... really suck.

I've spent an obscene amount of time placing and replacing stairs and slabs for lighting. It'd be devastating to my builds and building style. :-(

I've only seen the post on r/Minecraft. Found no specific details either, but it sounds like he's fixing the glitch where the slabs appear black in some parts of lighting.
