Kingdom proposals!

I tried today to enable the kingdom. However it requires a dev version of the multiverse plugin which is incompatible with other current version of multiverse parts that we depend on.

What I will try is to render a world and frame it with border and use that. If we do not generate additional land then we do not need to worry about the generation code.

I am also strongly considering using standard lots for the kingdom instead of other plugins like towny or precious stones. I could make larger lots and put them up for sale. The nice part is that this does not require a lot of work from my side and that it would be very easy to reset places. In order to enable roads to be build I could do be leaving a chunk wide space between lots for people to build. Those could be also lots that people can claim to make their own streets.

So let’s make an example:

Lots would be 256 x 256 blocks large. Around all lots would be a 16 x 256 wide chunk, and a 16×16 corner between 4 lots.

Financials: If we keep the cost per block constant, and a 256 widex 256 long x 256 high would cost 10k uncs, which is 0,0006 uncs per block, thenĀ  a street lot of 16x256x256 would cost 626 unc and a corner lot with 16x16x256 39 uncs.

To get a 4 main lots + 4 street lots + 1 corner lot you would pay 42’539 Uncs and get a 528×528 area.

Input appreciated.

  1. I like the idea very much. My question is can anyone buy lots or are the number of lots you can have per user level a restriction as well.

  2. the pricing and implementation feels fairly spot on.

    no upkeep?

    • good point. we can introduce that. the question is what happens when someone does not pay? insta-reset? access-block?

      • Sorry, think this might have been taken the wrong way.
I strongly oppose upkeep costs, as they deter bigger builds by single users *cough* me *cough*
Given the fairly steep pricing point, I do not think that there is a need for upkeep.

        Also as below:
I would suggest that you can only buy a long road piece if you have at least 2 large pieces and you can buy a center block only if you have at least 2 long roads. That way roads are a privilege for city builders. My worry would be that otherwise people start building roads but never get around building anything else.

This is a valid concern, requiring x of one to get y of another seems a good solution (in theory) to me.

  3. Access-block then maybe reset after a month of no-pay might be an option.

    • Since everyone can vote maybe make it should be 3,000 uncs, that is only 10 days of voting, so it means people who play on a regular basis will have no problem with the rent.

  4. Upkeep: I am not sure if we need upkeep. The lots are expensive enough on their own. Upkeep could make things complicated.

Roads: I like the idea of the grid layout with the roads between. My only concern would be people buying up the intersection lots because they are cheap, and blocking actual roads from being built. Shades of the hitchhiker’s guide, with somebody’s 8×8 dirt hut on a lot they bought for 39 uncs blocking a major highway.

Would it be possible to add a constraint that you have to own an adjacent lot (either regular or road) to purchase a road/intersection lot? Then you’d have to buy a big lot first, and then you can buy roads from there as you see fit.

    • I agree on the road bit. Being able to travel unimpeded is important.

    • Upkeep: I second the no need for upkeep at the elevated prices.
      – Although, what would keep someone from buying one, then not doing anything on it for months?
      – What happens if a group purchases it and the owner leaves but active building is taking place without them?
      – Perhaps, it could be passed to another member instead of insta-regen.

Roads: The road / lot design seems like an EXCELLENT idea. (Kudos for the hitchhiker’s reference, well played.) What happens when two roads intersect? Who gets ownership, purchase priority?

      • We could make a rule to transfer things to someone by a “buy out”. If some lot expires, other members of the lot can buy the membership for a certain amount of cash, let’s say 5k uncs.

    • I would suggest that you can only buy a long road piece if you have at least 2 large pieces and you can buy a center block only if you have at least 2 long roads. • I agree with the direction this is going, upkeep should not be necessary, higher cost should deter everyone using this as a “new lot”.

A buy out option should definitely be something that is available, if you put a lot of time into a group build, and the owner isn’t available anymore (afk’s for a long time) the other members of the group should be able to purchase and continue the work. It would make sense that ONLY people who are part of the build would be able to make the purchase of course. (If there were no remaining people working on the project it may go away)

Also this idea for the road requirements makes a lot of sense, considering anyone who would purchase one of these ‘road’ plots, would also need a larger lot adjacent.

    • Or the server could simply make an arbitrary rule:

“block a road, we reset ALL your lots!”

that should do it i think…

  5. I agree with with azkedar at the price you pay no upkeep, but you should follow the 30 day rule.
    I also like the roads.

  6. Upkeep seems relatively unnecessary in my opinion, unless of course we were going for realism, then yeah it would work.

  7. no like how lots expire like if you don’t get on in a month your lot expires
