1.7 release coming – what will happen?

As usual, before upgrades, here is an announcement about what will happen:

  • The server will continue to run as-is until we can upgrade to 1.7
  • We will upgrade to 1.7 as soon as Bukkit and the minimum required plugins (websend, worldguard, permissionsEX, worldborder, multiverse, essentials etc, etc) are stable enough to actually let us upgrade. This might take a long while this time, maybe 2-3 months, who knows – I don’t.
  • We will not start a temporary 1.7 server this time.
  • The Darklands will be reset on upgrade. Items left there will be deleted on upgrade. Feel free to disassemble it and store it somewhere safe so that it can be used to rebuild things in the new darklands.
  • We will create a new Empire map that will be used to reset expired and empty lots during upgrade. Occupied lots will be untouched. Users will have a 1-off option to reset some or all lots they own to the new map. I will post an image of the new empire map so that users will have a better idea how their lot will look like in case they get a reset.
  • I will do my best to upgrade deposits, shop contents and so on to the new data structure in 1.7. This might result to a closure of those functions for a certain time after upgrade, depending on how complicated it will be and how much time I have during the days the upgrade is possible.

  1. For those of us that have several lots, can we opt to leave 1 of them alone, and reset say, 2 lots?

  2. Question here: With the new PVP area in the aether in the works, will Sunday Darklands PVP still go on? Just wanted to know if we needed to build a new arena.

    • Sunday PVP will go on until we have something else. And even then, we can decide what will happen to it. Please post to the proper blogpost, and keep this here 1.7 related.

  3. Could you elaborate on the empire lot replacement process, please. Does that mean that the replaced lots will be taken from the new map and will not fit into the old chunks? That is – will they have non fitting terrain elevations and biomes?

    • That is correct I would believe. I’ve seen mountains cut in half by a desert not owned by someone. Theirs chunks of biomes completely random to their neighbors. That’s my best guess. Think of paint. How you cover the old paint with the new paint.

      Imagine there is another empire map that looks completely different, made with 1.7 code and biomes. Its split into the same quadrants like the empire. Every time a lot is reset, it takes the new 1.7 world pieces to replace a reset empire lot. Of course, initially, the neighbor lots will not fit well with it, since mountains might be cut in half and water starts across the lot border, new biomes etc. But once more and more lots reset, the whole empire will look like the new map.

      This is why we will automatically reset all empty lots and everyone gets a chance to reset their lot too, to speed up the process.

  4. Does “Users will have a 1-off option to reset” mean we will have a one time chance to decide? The new map will be available soon after 1.7 is released and we will have from then until uncovery upgrades to decide? And finally, will we be able to change lot location from where we are now?

    • It means you can reset it only once, no more after the first time. I am not sure how long I give people to decide, but probably something like 2 months after the upgrade.
      You can do that after the upgrade, not before. You will be able to change lot location, too.

      I normally do not allow resets because I want to avoid people reseting their lot over and over and mining the same known locations again and again. Since this will be an unknown lot, I will allow it this one time.

      • Dont you have to reset your lot to get ti change lots? Or is it like Once you change , your lot will reset?
        And another question , will there be a map released to show what the lots look like if we reset?

        • Fifth dot. 4th line. I will post an image of the new empire map so that users will have a better idea how their lot will look like in case they get a reset.

        • Whatever you decide to do, you can only do it once. If you have more than 1 existing empire lot, you can choose which ones you want to change.

          For each lot, you can either:
          1) Do nothing, keep it as it is
          2) Reset the lot to 1.7 terrain, keeping the same location
          3) Give up the lot (it will be reset) and pick a new lot in a different location, which will have 1.7 terrain

          However, you can’t reset one lot one week and then come back next week and do another one. Make your decisions for all of your lots, and it all gets done at once. It is a one-time deal.

  5. How do I keep the 1.6.4 version? Everytime I open minecraft it automatically updates me to 1.7.2. I’ve tried swapping the .jar files, minecraft version changer, and a bunch of other stuff that also didn’t work. I don’t want to lose my lots while I wait a few months for the server to update to 1.7.2. How are the rest of you still playing the 1.6.4 version? I’m on a mac btw.

      • I tried that and it wanted me to upgrade to the latest version which I tried to do but it didn’t work. I spent an hour trying to figure out what went wrong with the upgrade.

    • In the Default Launcher you should have 2 buttons in the bottom left corner, “New Profile” and “Edit Profile”. Now click on the “New Profile” Button and you can choose version 1.6.4 in the drop down menu next to “Use Version”. Now click on “Save Profile” and you should be done.

      • Omg, thank you JoBilly!!!!!!! I would have never tried this. It’s like a built in Minecraft Version Changer. This is great!

Im in the process of moving all my stuff to my aether lot so that way if i want to reset my empire lot or change it then i dont lose anything at all only problem i can see is my horses though and my cat… and animals i really dont wanna lose my white horse in gold armor but if theres no other way to do so then ill just take everything i can and have it reset unless someone is willing to hold my horses temporarily once we update

    • I wont be resetting one of my Empire lots. Too much work done there.

      Not sure where you are, but H_18 will not be resetting.

    • you can keep your horses in my stables if you want clas. i am emp_aa16 (practically right next door to miner) and would not mind at all guiding you there when i am on :) i also have plenty of room in my stables!!!

  7. Drat…….and I accidentally updated without making a version 1.6 archive… :/

    • JoBilly had a fix, I believe:

      In the Default Launcher you should have 2 buttons in the bottom left corner, “New Profile” and “Edit Profile”. Now click on the “New Profile” Button and you can choose version 1.6.4 in the drop down menu next to “Use Version”. Now click on “Save Profile” and you should be done.
