I recently went into the Darklands and hid 1 diamond block, 3 lapis blocks, 6 iron blocks, and 2 gold blocks. All of them blocks are hidden withing 100 blocks of the spawn but they could be at any Y.  If you find one lucky you only a few of them are visible with out having to delete blocks and you can only see them form a certain angel.
