I just closed the adventure contest. Unfortunately only 2 people participated. While luklukk got the better rating, and is therefore the winner, I want to thank both for participating. Deltascout11 will get a credit for future creative contests. I still have to finalize a system how people get a level upgrade for winning creative contests. Luklukk will win a stack of diamonds! We already moved his entry to the city, and you can start his story by going to the story house next to the portal house. Check it out!

Item stack list needed
We are having a bug in the shop. The issue arises if you try to withdraw items that stack but in other quantities than 64. To fix this, I need a list of all stackable items that stack in lower amounts than 64 in the format of
item-id => stacksize, item-id => stacksize, item-id => stacksize, etc
anyone?
Banned users lots now also show red on the maps
I changed the map software to now also show the lots of banned users as red on the map. I then went ahead and reset all those abandoned lots, so we have another 5-6 lots free now.
Shop now warns for invalid items!
There are many items that are existing in game, but which you cannot obtain in survival mode, such as a fire block. There are other items such as nether warts which have a block (115 in this example) and an item (372) that have a similar name, but only the item is available. The block is marked red in the wiki’s item list. Until now, if you searched for netherwart in the shop, it would show you item 115, but if you tried to buy it, it would not have any sellers. However, plenty of 372 are in the shop.
To stop this confusion, the shop now will warn you if you try to /find or /search for an unavailable block. It will also tell you if you put up a purchase request for one of these.
Enchanted items & shops fixed
I just fixed the issue that some enchanted items cannot be retrieved from the shop. I fixed remaining enchanted items in the shop, so whatever is in the shop now with an enchantment, can be withdrawn without a problem.
/ws help now /shophelp
the command /ws help is now called /shophelp. While /ws help will continue to work, there is now no need ato use /ws <whatever> anymore anywhere. All commands now have their own text.
Word of advice regarding griefing
I heard now several times that people were griefed by using switches to start harvesting mechanisms or luring away animals though open doors. The only way to stop that, would be to enable users to disable switches, as we do it in towny. There is an issue with that however:
In the empire, 100% of the area is covered by lots. Many of the lots have large builds or even walls. Most of the doors now are iron to keep the creepers out. If we allow blocking of switch-use, we run the risk that new users have to take massive detours to reach their lot due to closed doors.
Since the griefing is only occasional, I would recommend instead that you remove the switches and buttons that allow access to your most important assets and place them only when you use them once you see that you are a victim of griefing.
If we see that this is a more widespread issue, we can think also about alternative methods. At the same time I will see if we use a monitoring plugin so we can ban those users right away.
New Announcement channel!
We have a new announcement channel! inQuish was kind enough to whip up a small plugin that lets our website backend and other services talk into a special channel on the server. Everyone automatically joins this channel, you cannot speak in it, and you cannot escape leave it… All stuff like the website updates and the restarts etc will be in this channel. The channel will also be broadcast to the IRC chat as soon as I figure out how to do that properly.
Better information how to contribute
New command to direct new users to the website
I made a new command: /website <username> . It will send the following message to the user (actually a /msg from you):
Dear <username>, you have just asked a question that is answered on the website. Instead of bothering everyone in game, please go there and look for the answer yourself: http://uncovery.me – Thats why we have it;
Hope this will be helpful for the endless questions and “please check the website” answers.
Creative Mode contest: Roller Coaster!
Build a roller coaster in Creative mode. Here are the details.
2000 registered users!
We now have reached 2000 registered users! That means that 0.033% of all registered minecraft players have been on the server – if that means anything at all. It also means that in average we have 3 users per day registering on the website since it exists!
Well, whatever this means, I am happy about it and we hopefully can see this server grow even faster in the future!
New Twitter Account, automatic posting
We have a new twitter account now, @uncoveryme, and I have setup a plugin that will automatically post new posts & comments to that twitter account. So you can simply follow the twitter account to know what is going on on the server!
The old twitter account will be discontinued, so please follow the new one instead.
World plans
I have put some thought into the world plans and here is the current status. Empire, skylands, flatlands, nether and the darklands seem to be working very nicely and balanced. I have followed some discussions regarding a comeback of the kingdom and I can see a merit in a more stable environment where people can build larger things together. There are 2 dynamics behind this: Initiative & Commitment
If the initiative for a group build is not big enough, we will have, like in the old kingdom, a lot of half-built, half deserted places, started by one and ripped apart by the competition created to join this or that town.
If the commitment is not big enough, any effort will sooner or later die. It risks of working like an economy, where several small companies start and in the end all flock to the largest one and the rest is bound to lie in ruins or to remain a playground for a single person. What can change those dynamics is normally money. If something is very cheap, then a lot of people join in but do not have the commitment later. So my initial thought would be that:
When this month is over, the old “world” will be deleted – as announced to those who still have a lot in it by email. I could then create a new kingdom, with limited size and towny enabled. One would NOT be able o build or mine in the wild, and lots would be quite expensive – something like 500 or even 1000 per lot. This would be to make sure people think before they do something and plan ahead. The maintenance of the lots could be cheaper in return so stuff does not get reset so quickly.
I am happy to get ideas how to prevent to have the kingdom become a building graveyeard. I also need to check how much the settings in one world can be different to another world – so no promises on any of this at all. In the worst case, I would make darklands free for all and only have towny in the kingdom to enable the group building there. Also, if we do that, we can disable backups in the darklands but make it unlimited in size. The nether is already 1GB large, I do not want to have 5GB backups… for a world that is deleted every couple of months anyhow.
MM re-enabled – except signs
I re-enabled the minecart plugin except for the signs. I am waiting for a reply of the plugin author regarding the bug I filed.
MM temp disabled
There were some issues with MM, specially with the singcommands that basically crashed the server. When testing to restart the server, some issues of Minecraft connecting to the login server on top of it made it impossible to identify the issue properly.
So I removed MM for now and will test it tomorrow again to see where the issue is.
Minecart Mania is back!
I have by accident found that someone who picked up the MM development released a new version 2 days ago! So I spent the last 5 hours configuring it – and it works now, after many restarts!
I changed the config a bit, so you might have to rebuild your stuff slightly. Most important change: All control blocks under the minecarts are now wool blocks. Old wool colors are the same all other blocks have been replaced by different color wool blocks. Also, powered rails now stop the cart if they are not powered. If they are powered, they accelerate it.\
See the Minecarts page for details please.
New header images
I created a set of 12 new header images. As you can see, there is a frame set and a changing picture/logo combination. I hope you all like it. I am always happy to get new proposals of things to be included, mostly only things from the city though.
General proposals on how to make the website more unique without going all the way to the standardized minecraft look of so many other websites like the wiki would be great.
Updates to Shop and Deposit
After reviewing the feedback from the recent survey regarding the shop, we’ve made some small changes to hopefully make it work better for everyone.
- /find, /list, and /cancel will now assume “offer” if you don’t specify request or offer. So /find cobblestone will work again.
- /offer can now take an optional “silent” argument anywhere to suppress the sales announcements, so you can avoid spamming when posting large quantities to the shop. For example: /offer 5 silent will post all of the item in your hand at a price of 5 and will not generate any announcement.
- /withdraw all can now be used to withdraw everything from the deposit. It will stop if it runs out of room in your inventory.
- /withdraw @sender can now be used to withdraw everything from a particular sender, for example my personal favorite:
/withdraw @lottery
There were also some small changes to the help and error messages:
- /sell now reminds you that you might mean /offer instead when you don’t give a shop-id.
- All messages now omit /ws from the command syntax, except for /ws help where it is always required. Every other command can be written without /ws (though you can write it if you wish), and it’s shorter and clearer to write it that way.
Of course, please report any problems with the shop system that may arise. Thanks!
Shop issues?
It was reported that the shop might not be working properly in some instances, specially when handing over items to you – but still working fine in most cases. We currently could not reproduce this reliably to identify issues. One thing that might be an issue is the fact that the lottery might hand out items with impossible enchantments that are then irretrievable.
Please help solving this with the following: If you see anything that is working not as expected, please check if there is any error message visible. If so, send a screenshot. If it is something you can try again, (like selling something and you did not loose items) then try again. If it happens again, or if it is something that you cannot reproduce (like you tried to buy something, items were not received, but the offer is not there anymore), then please post a report here immediately. We need to know from whom, at what time you tried to buy how much of what and what exactly happened.
If we do not get this information it is very hard to fix things. So any information you have is very helpful to get a result here.
