Virtualshop selling works now! NO ENCHANTMENTS!

Virtualshop selling works now. However, NOT for enchanted items! They will loose their enchantments! I am waiting for an update of the websend plugin to enable this. For instructions, use

/ws help sell

You can use everything else however, including damaged items and colored wool. they will be listed accordingly in the shop with a % damage or the color etc.

Virtualshop buying enabled!

It is now possible to buy goods in the virtualshop! Please use

/ws

for more info. Virtualshop is enabled in the empire, skylands and kingdom only!
If there are any issues, please let me know. Please make small transactions first to make sure everything works fine. Please report issues immediately.

Several map fixes done

  • The 3D Map is on the latest version now and should display users more reliably etc.
  • The 2D map now shows the coordinates on the user
  • The 2D map coordinates on the lots are now in the proper order
  • flatlands and world now properly show the users

Virtualshop development

I am actively working on the replacement for virtualshop. You can take a look with

/ws

and see what functions I am working on. You can test it, but please do not put your diamonds in there since there might be still bugs.

Virtualshop broken – new shop under construction

The old “virtualshop” plugin is now finally broken and abandoned. I will delete the plugin today. What does this mean for your shop contents? You can still get them at a later time since I wrote a function that allows this. However, selling and buying will not be able until I finished programming a new shop. I recommend that you get your stuff out of the shop but if you cannot, I will transfer leftovers to the new shop once it is ready for stuff to be bought.

If you cancel your old items out of the shop, empty your inventory and then please use the following command while in the empire world:

/ws list

This will show you a list of the items you have in the shop. Note down the ID of the item. Then use

/ws cancel <itemid> <amount>

Replace in the above the previously noted item text and insert the amount you want to have back. You will then receive the items and the transaction records are updated. If you do not enter the amount, the maximum possible amount will be given to you.
ATTENTION: This function has a security built in to give you no more than 2000 items at a time. HOWEVER if you cancel an amount of items that does not fit in your inventory, the excess amount will be LOST. So be careful not to take too much.

Contest Winners Townhouses!

This contest was again very difficult to vote. Specially since everyone built 3-4 individual houses and the whole level of detail as well as the different building styles were very hard to compare.

Stuff that specially stood out for me (in no particular order):

  • The mushroom walls in azkedar’s entry really look like tapestry
  • The shops downstairs in Plutmasters entry
  • The ground floor gardens in skillet’s buildings
  • the roof in kddk’s entry
  • many small details such as glass bathtubs, funny signs, usage of space in general and all appliances, TVs etc that people stuffed into the tiny space

I think this is one of the most impressive builds we ever had, right next to the noble houses. We had 10 entries, and enough to group the participants by level. So here are the winners:

  • Elders: Plutomaster (by a very thin 0.2 margin)
  • Masters: Azkedar (also best ranking overall)
  • Architects: kddk
  • Settlers: Mochatonic

Settlers & Architects winners get a level upgrade, all 4 get a stack of diamonds, and azkedar an enchanted item of choice on top of that for having the best overall ranking! The level upgrades are already done, please come to me for the item awards!

Congrats to all the winners, thanks for all participants!
I would be glad to hear what you guys liked about the individual entries! Please comment here!

High-resultion 3D maps

I am currently rendering new 3D maps of all worlds. They are in the proper angle now after we turned all the maps and also in a much higher resolution. Since rendering maps takes some time, please be patient until this is done. It might take some days to finish all of them due to the high resolution. As of this moment, the city map is done and the empire map is being rendered. The not rendered areas will be blank until they are done too.

Maps rotated!

Please note that I have now redone all the maps and they now point in the right direction, including the lot locations for both worlguard regions and towny lots. So the sun now rises in the east and sets in the west.

There is now also a command /compass which will tell you where you are looking. The questionnaires for settlers etc are now also updated. If you find anything that is still wrong, please let me know.

The only glitch is that the lot A1 is now in the south-west instead of the north-west but I guess we can live with that.

Hunger game update

Please note that the command that has to be used to enter a hunger game is now

/warp hunger

and can be used as the old command by masters and elders to start a hunger game. The warp will now bring you to the exact center of the hunger game world unlike the old command with a rather random location.

World regeneration update – further headdaches

I have now upgraded to the recommended build of Bukkit 1.1 which uses all the facilities of the 1.1 release of Bukkit, including the terrain generation. Here is how future terrain updates will affect the server, as far as I can say now:

All “normal worlds” such as empire, kingdom, darklands etc will have scenery breaks in them when a user lets his lot expire and it it regenerated by me. HOWEVER it seems that at least recently generated worlds (empire, darklands) will not change the biomes (snow in the desert etc) when there is an update, but also never get new biomes. I regenerated two abandoned lots in the empire now and it seems as if the breaks in the landscape are not a really terrible thing. They occur only in some few corners of the lot, and the landscape generally looks the same. So I guess I will leave it as is.

All non-normal worlds (skylands and flatlands) are currently non-regeneratable. This means that if someone abandons a lot, I will have to either manually create a new terrain (for flatlands, this works quite fast) or simply leave an empty void (for skylands, same effort as the old method, but no islands in the sky) behind. Both are currently manageable, but not as originally intended at least.

For the flatIands, I COULD use the new flat terrain as you know it from the single player for the flatlands, but that terrain is at level 5 and you see the void fog there as if you dig down in a normal world until that level. Since we do not have too many users for that world, I am not really sure what to do. I can either migrate everyone to a new world and have the annoyance of the void fog (people would have to build at least one layer of soil at a higher level) or leave everything as is. You opinions are welcome there.

In the end, the story is that managing the server does not get any easier. I am still running with at least 3 plugins that are essentially abandoned and half-broken and the terrain editor seems to remain an issue for some worlds at least.

Changing the Portal System

Unfortunately, the currently used portal system, XCraftGate is abandoned and now so outdated that it prevents me from updating other parts of the server w/o breaking something.

I hope to be able to find another easy and compact portal plugin, so far it seems that there is no such thing.

On top of that, the current portal system is also running the multiple worlds we are using. This means that I have to change two things at the same time. While you do not care what system is running the multiple worlds, you will care if the portals stop working.

So here is the solution. First of all, I will stop all the portals. Instead, we will be temporarily use the /warp command. I created a /warp point for every existing portal. Please use the /spawn command to go back instead of going through a portal back to spawn. Use /warp by itself to see all warp points.

I will also replace the world management and hope that there will be as little interruption as possible.
