Kingdom files fixed! (Or is it?)

The issue we had yesterday in the kingdom was actually not fixed with the reset. I had the same issue again and had to download the complete world, fix it with mcedit (delete the chunks that were faulty) and re-uploaded the chunks. The result is a couple of not-so-nice breaks between the old and new map generator.

The affected areas were south-east of Rome along the break of the new & old map generation. Please go to your areas and check if everything is ok! I will make sure later that there are no other issues on the rest of the map.

Arena copied & Japan created!

I have copied over all Japanese/Chinese buildings that we had on the city into a new area that can be reached like the other areas through the city area portal house. Thanks to lvasold and plutomaster to help fitting them into the landscape!

I also copied the arena over so we can do spleef games again. The spleef plugin still has to be installed and tested though. Thanks also to lvasold for helping with the landscaping! The arena is just south of spawn, so no need to take a portal.

Tree House contest copied to city, let the voting begin!

I have copied the (so far) 4 entries to the tree house contest to the city and tried to integrate it as well as possible into a “natural” environment.

If you go to spawn and from there to the city-area portals you can see the “treehouse” portals. From the other side of the portal, 4 paths branch out to the individual tree houses.

If you have not submitted your tree house, please do so ASAP!

Elders, please go and take a look and rate the tree houses!

16 Noble houses copied to City world – 3D Dynmap up & markers added

I have now copied 16 houses from the “noble house” contest over to the city world, with the help of lvasold in landscaping and making of walkways. The houses fit perfectly on a small peninsula just off the spawn island. I will make a portal there soon.

Also, the 3D Dynamic map is back online, now with markers to indicate important locations on the city map – more of them will follow. I will try to also indicate occupied lots with markers on the map, I have to check out first if that is possible at all.

I also updated the worldedit plugin to the latest version. That should not change anything for anybody as of now, but watch for more plugins to be enabled for 1.0 over the coming days.

Kingdom Bug – map reset

We just lost 6 hours of whatever was done in the kingdom since the last restart of the server. There was a severe error that I cannot possibly fix in the map. I assume some corruption going on. The server complained about a chunk being in an unexpected place. Don’t ask me how this can happen.

Anyhow, I reloaded the backup from 6 hours ago, I hope not too much broke because of this. Please report immediately if you see some strange stuff on the map.

City regions – Egypt copied over

Since different places in the new city world will host different buildings in order to avoid too much compression, appropriate environments as well as less lag, I changed the original first, smaller portal building into a “city region” portal building with portals to the sky scrapers, the desert and the tree houses. Check out the portals and visit those places!

Egypt is already completely copied over. If you have additional ideas how to enlarge this area or if you want to build additional things for it, please go ahead!

Player paco_taco15 banned

I just banned this user for being abusive, annoying and excessively cursing, despite having received a strong warning from my side and several elders on different occasions in the meantime. He also took the term “help vampire” to another dimension.

Stable Bukkit Build, Minecarts & Gold Exchange installed!

I just updated the server to the recently released stable bukkit build. The fact that this exists means that we have a higher security on plugins actually working and updates can happen much faster. Before I would install them slowly to make sure everything still works, now I can have a certain security on that.

Also the Gold Exchange that Azkedar wrote is working again, along with the minecart systems.

City developments

There are more and more developments in the (new) city:

  • We have a very cozy spawn area now thanks to the elders who built them!
  • I started to copy the biggest sky scrapers over to the western peninsula of the spawn island.
  • I also copied the 4 “educational” building over to the city, north-east of spawn, as a kind of university cluster. I plan to move the stadium somewhere near there, so that items of daily use can be accessed easily.
  • I have started to copy over the first tree house contest areas and scouted for a desert that can hold the pyramid etc.

What needs to be built now is a better access to the areas where contest entries are placed. There is an urgent need for illuminated walkways on the city area so people can find the different places and walk around and into the buildings w/o falling into holes and bumping into trees.

Any help there is appreciated. Also, any support on how to group buildings and where to place them is very helpful. If anyone wants to help with this, please let me know. I essentially need someone to go around the old city, look at the buildings and then mark out areas for each in the new city so I can copy-paste them there.

Kingdom map and border

As you know, we carried the kingdom map over from the old system and decided not to regenerate this. After some days of work, I managed to make a tool work on my server that can soften the break between to map generation methods by placing a river in between the areas and smoothing the hills around it so you do not get strange cliffs in the middle of the landscape. While the result still looks a bit weird on the map since you can see the exact square area and the straight lines from the previous map very clearly, it is still an acceptable result when seen from within the game.

I now expanded the kingdom map border from 1000 blocks from the center to 1100 blocks. Since there is still a lot of areas without any towns I will leave it at that for the time being.

Building rules reminder

I would like to remind everyone about the building rules on the server. The flatlands is a creative map, so you can build what you like there except:

  • offensive stuff – just like everywhere else
  • stuff that creates lag, specially redstone builds that are working all the time

Lots sharing fixed

You can now add other members to your lot and it will stick. There was a wrong file permission for the empire world. Please add people again as you like and tell me if there is still an issue.

3D Map & creative city

After some difficulties I managed to re-install the 3D map. Please see the menu for the link. The maps are still rendered in a different mode than I was used to have, I will see if I can change that.

Also, the city is in creative mode now and shares inventory with the flatlands. I hope that nobody lost their inventory because of that. If that is the case, I unfortunately cannot do a lot. The goal of this is to make the city world accessible as creative mode to elders and to let them help me build the new city.

Also, there should be no more problem with EXP and enchantments when going from survival to creative and back.

Flatlands Creative Lots now available!

I have now enabled the flatlands – a flat land (duh!) where you can use creative mode! This is however only available to people with a free lot! So if you are settler, you have to choose between EITHER an empire lot OR a flatlands lot. The number of maximum lots is not increased for anyone!

In order to get a flatlands lot, please look at this map here, choose a lot and then go the the “Become a settler” page to choose a lot!

Updates: current status

I upgraded the server now. What works already and what does not?

Working:

  • You should be able to login if you are whitelisted and get your username / userlevel
  • you should be able to go to your homes etc.
  • /spawn should bring you to the new (still small) city. There are portals to bring you to all the lots
  • You should be able to build on the lots you own in “world” & “skylands”.
  • You should be able to abandon your lot in “world”
  • If you have free lots, you should be able to reserve a lot in “Empire”. The normal “get building rights” form should allow this.
  • Voting – gives you one cake a 100uncs again
  • skylands application works again
  • nether is working too – w/o towny. Finally it is not possible to use towny there since it would create issues with reaching places if you cannot build. So it is just as it was before.
  • Server is now set to difficulty level 3 instead of 1
  • experience drops are ON. We will have to see if that causes massive lag. ATTENTION: If you teleport to another world, your experience shows as zero. This is however only what is shown. if you relogin, you see all of your XP again.
  • Kingdom plots are fine & working – on a old version of towny though. The upgrade to a newer version seems to fail. I will have to talk with the devs to see what it wrong so we can upgrade.

NOT Working:

  • Mine carts are not working yet properly.
  • The directions North ,South etc are still the old ones on the maps. Your minimaps might show differently.
  • several plugins like the shop etc are not installed yet.
  • the creative map is not there yet
  • the kingdom cannot be expanded yet. I found a tool that allows me to have smooth map transitions, but it does not work onmy server for some reason. working on a fix there, too.

Update: What happens next

I have found now decent seeds for the city, empire and also the kingdom. There is so far no recommended build for bukkit, but I have seen servers running on the dev builds and so far what I have seen everything seems to be working nicely. I will TRY to get the server up and running with the minimal (=security) plugins working.

I will try to upgrade the server tomorrow (10 hours or so after you read this). This will require that I actually shut down the temp server, the 1.8 server and try to build a new 1.0 main server with all plugins, maps, backends, datafiles etc. During this time, you are welcome to be on the server and help me test it as far as possible. There will be frequent restarts and some downtime here and there. As a minimum you can help me building a temp spawn area in the “city” map. We can also create a collaborative document that lists everything that has to be updated on the website.

Once 1.0 is running and people can use their “world” lots, I will fix the page to abandon lots and enable the lot reservation for the empire.

Update: City map

After trying a few seeds I now also found and created a city map. I am not sure exactly where we place what, but the balance of water/land made me decide for this one. Please take a look here.
