Ok, I am working since some 2-3 hours on the update now and here is the fist visible progress: The Empire, the new map where everyone can get their lots is not officially generated. You cannot reserve lots yet. Please see the map here.

Lots can be abanoned now!
As mentioned below, we will move to a new map soon, called the “Empire” that will replace the “world” map. You only have a limited amount of lots that you can reserve on the world & empire maps. If you used up all your lots on the “world” map, you need to abandon those first in order to reserve a lot on the “Empire” map. This will be only useful once you can actually reserve a lot on the “Empire” map. If you abandon a lot, your user status will obviously NOT change.
So I wrote a code now that enables you to abandon lots in the “world” map if you want to do so already.Please also note that this will DELETE the lot from the map and will not be available for anyone after that anymore.
Also: There are no “Cancel”, “Undo” or “OMG I fucked up and cannot access my stuff anymore, PLS PLS PLS Uncovery help me” buttons – or acceptable help requests.
MC 1.0 – Whats next?
Ok, as you might have heard (cough) – Minecraft 1.0 is finally finished – no more beta. So what does that mean for Uncovery Minecraft?
- Well first of all we have to wait until the Bukkit software releases a stable build. Since there were no code changes in the last 15 days, but some in the last hours, we might not have to wait too long for that.
- Then we have to wait until the most important plugins are updated, too. This includes WorldEdit, WorldGuard, Whitelist, Towny, XCraftGate etc etc. If there are some crucial plugins which are abandoned or take too long, I will look for alternatives. Currently, all the plugins needed seem to be quite active however.
- Once the stuff is ready, I will create the following new maps:
- (immediately) A new city map where we will have different biomes for different parts of the city such as a desert for the egyptian map. This map will be only to copy-paste stuff there from contests and the best builds overall. We will have to build spawn buildings/towns for the different levels.
- (immediately) A new lot map called “The Empire” where all new lots are given out on. If people have available lots to register on the “world”, they can get one there. There will be no more central city there, and no more railway system.
- (later) A creative map. Everyone will be able to get a creative lot with separate inventories if they give up one lot on the empire/world map. If you are settler, and have only one lot free, you have to choose between creative and survival. The overall sum of lots between the world/empire & creative worlds will not increase per user.
- This is what will happen with the existing worlds:
- The “world” map will be phased out. No more new lots will be given out. It will be accessible until all lots are deserted, and people can continue building there. The city will be copied over to the new “city” world.
- The Skylands will be copied over as-is. No changes
- The nether will be re-created. Most probably I will be enabling towny there.
- The Kingdom map will be copied over as-is. I will run a tool that creates smooth borders for the expansion with the new biomes. so that it looks good.
- Other stuff to do:
- Finally fix the contest entry system and rank the tree house entries
- Some smaller fixes
As you can imagine, this will all take some time to finish. I just came back from another business trip, and I have one more this week, and then another one in December. So please be patient with questions & requests. The top priority will be to get the “empire” and old worlds up and running with sufficient security ASAP. All in all I hope that the most important stuff can be done until next weekend.

New Contest manager [ON HOLD]!
Since there are some technical issues, the contest manager is on hold right now.
Please take a look at the new Contest Manager which will be replacing the submission to contest through comments in the Blog. Please submit the entries to the Tree house contest there and tell me if there are any issues.
Mob spawn fixed
I finally found the plugin that was disabling mobs from spawning. It should be fixed now!
Contest delay
Since I had visitors last week and had to go to Singapore until Tuesday, I did not have time to setup the voting system for the last contest. Sorry about that but I will have to postpone it until next weekend. So the submission deadline will most probably be the 20th unless announced otherwise.
Small Towny Hickup
I had to restore the towny config from 12 hours ago since a new version of the plugin decided to corrupt my files. If you claimed any plots or did other changes with towny commands, I am sorry but you would have to do those again.
Testing something new: 1.9.4 Temp HARD MODE
Since the 1.9 is still not finished, I though I try something new. I installed a 1.9.4 server on port 25564 hard mode. Try to survive it!
Server moved to port 25565
I moved the server to port 25565. There are too many confusions with users connecting to the proper port which are unnecessary. We originally moved to 25564 a year ago since there was no whitelist. We have a whitelist now and therefore can move back to 25565. I am announcing this a bit beforehand so you know what is coming. If you see you cannot connect, please try the other port.
In short: You can connect to uncovery minecraft now by entering “uncovery.net” (w/o a port numnber) into the server field of your minecraft client
1.9.3 temp server closed down!
I had to close the temp server with the pre-release. The server was using up 60-80% of the CPU time w/o anyone being logged in even. IT lagged the 1.8 server quite considerably. Sorry about that. We will have to wait for a more stable version.
Pictures from my trip
Although my diving case leaked (it was brand new…) and I could take pictures only on one dive, I could take some really nice pictures in my opinion. Since people asked, here are the good ones.
The camera is a Olympus PEN E-PL2 and the case is a PT-EP03 with an external flash UW UFL-1
Dynmap re-enabled
I just re-installed the dynmap plugin and upgraded the config. The maps have to be rendered again individually to show the changes since the upgrade. Places that are changed now should be updated on the map instantly as usual. The users are also shown again on the map.
Virtualshop commands updated
I finally now updated the page where the virtualshop commands are described to reflect the changes in the plugin.
Tree house contest ends 15th October
The tree house contest will end 15th of October. I will install beginning of next week a new submission form from the contests. Please do not submit entries before that.
As a general guideline again: I will be quite flexible in terms of the entries. If it looks like a tree, I will most likely accept it.
Server was down – back up now
Just arrived in Bali after more than 14 hours travel – airplane delayed etc. Got an email saying the server and the website was down. Turns out the harddisk was full from the twice-a-day backups. Freed 160 GB data. Should delete the stuff more often.
1.9Pre2 server up at port 25565
Dear uncovererers (hu?), there is now finally a 1.9Pre2 server up. This is a temp map to fool around on and to get familiar with the 1.9 features. Do not waste your time here to build crazy stuff. It will be deleted. (Did I mention that before?)
Also, as usual, the temp server is whitelisted with a DIFFERENT system. Same list though. This means that if you are a new user who just joined, you most probably won’t be able to login on the temp server. The 1.9 whitelist gets only updated on server restart.
Anywho, I will be leaving in 24 hours to Bali, diving. I will most probably have some slow internet access sometime during the day, but I might not be able to do crazy stuff.
