New Mob lagg tests

I have now – at least temporarily – disabled mob limits. Instead I have added a layer where one can see on the map all the player-controlled mobs. You have to switch that on on the layer icon so you can see them.

I hope to get a bit more transparency of the mobs being loaded even though players are not there etc. I hope to get a deeper understanding of the server load through this. Please note that this feature is only for me to be able to debug and will disappear sooner or later.

Mob Egg dispensers in the city work again

You can now again use mob egg dispensers in the city. This means that stories can be equipped with mobs! I had to submit a bug for a plugin and discuss with 2 developers until some user found out that there is a setting in the plugin that allows to have mobs generally off but allow the exception of mob eggs.

Mob Limits, 3D Map changes

We have had constant CPU lag over the last 24 hours and I am having trouble locating the reason. The first thing that I did was plugin testing and I also changed the settings of the 3D map to use fewer resources. I have for example changed how water it processed and how shadows are displayed. I also now switched off map updates on grass & tree growth and many more smaller events. The map might not be as nice and 100% accurate anymore but it helps reducing the lag.

Further I have installed now max mob limits per world and overall. This will cause some of your mobs to disappear. The overall goal should be that everyone keeps the amount of animals that they actually need for that specific moment. There should be no-one having to keep 25 wolves around, or 20 sheep in every color unless you are building something – in every color. Specially mobs that eat grass cause lag since the server has to calculate their movement, their eating AND the grass growing back which is causing lag.

Server lag

Since the 3D map is currently trying to catch up rendering the new area of the empire map, there is some lag on the server. There are over 30k tiles to render since the area is quite large. Once that is done, there should be less lag.

Map enlargement errors

There was an error in the code that created the larger map and transferred the lot ownerships. It missed the top 2 rows of lots while copying the actual owners over. I re-did that now manually for those few lots on the top 2 rows (formerly W & X, now AA and AB). I did not copy the lot members, only the owners. Please add the lot members again manually, sorry for this. If you find any other access right issues on the map, please report them immediately. I have backups and can check the previous status.

Empire world enlarged by 448 lots

I have now enlarged the map by 4 rows of lots all around totaling in 448 new lots to be reserved. I hope that this should be enough to cope with the max capacity of the server. If anyone has issues loading the 2D map, please tell me. If there is a real issue with the size of the map graphics file for people to load it, I can try making a smaller version.

Lower resolution 2D maps

I have switched to a new map renderer for the 2D maps and removed the flat maps from the 3D maps software. The 3D maps software updates the map on each edit and therefore creates a lot of processor load. The lot map is only created every day once with another rendering software. I hope that we will have less risk of lag. Currently the server mostly complains about chunk loading and map rendering as processor load causing items. There is some strange pattern/noise now on the 2D map that I am trying to fix however.

Empire lots shortage

Due to the recent popularity on the server, our empire lots might be getting too few to offer a wide variety of biomes to every user. We will expand the map today with another couple of hundred new lots on the borders. If you cannot find a lot that you like on the empire map today, please wait 12 hours or so and there will be plenty of new stuff to choose from.

Manlymaster2 banned for X-Raying

Manlymaster2 was found to be x-raying for mining since the security settings on the server alerted his cheating. Good riddance!

Darklands update

The darklands have now their border removed and are not backed up anymore. So you are free to roam and to explore. Please wait with massive investments into lots here since it is not certain yet how lots will work in the future there.

Teleporting is now also removed there, and removed all the homes in the darklands. They now point to the same location in the empire.

Next empire enlargement on the way

I will soon (if I have time, today) enlarge the empire for another couple of rows. Maybe this time I do 4 right away. We have had many new users recently again and more than ever before they stick around, so we have less old lots to reset. The leftover lots right now are most in snow, water or desert and I want to make sure that new users have a decent variety of biomes to choose from.

What does it mean for you? If everything goes well, nothing. Only your lot name changes, but all the access rights and of course the location stays the same. Watch this space for an announcement that it is finished. If after that you have issues accessing your lot, please say something so we can look into it.

Darklands future

I will enable the kingdom next weekend as the new place for group builds. The darklands will be even more so a place for mining and resets after minecraft updates. What will change for the darklands?

  • I will stop making backups of that world. If something goes wrong with those files, we have to reset that section or all. Happens very very rarely however.
  • I will remove the borders so you can explore w/o limits
  • I will disable all warping, /home /tp, /spawn etc there
  • I will enable mob damage from endermen & creepers. So you better fortify your builds
  • maybe more in case I have some mean ideas how to make the world hard and the most like single player.

So what does that mean? You can continue building. You can continue using the darklands as it was intended. No need to panic. If you think that DL is now not so good anymore for your builds, you can move to the kingdom next week. It will allow torches etc.

Remember: The darklands is meant for mining only. If you build there, your decision. The other worlds are for building. The kingdom will be for group builds.

Old world deleted

I now finally deleted the old world. Next steps will be to setup a kingdom as discussed many times before. Once that is done, I will remove the borders from the darklands and switch off backup there, so we have an unlimited mining world.
