I am finally back from my trip and planning to do the upgrade to 1.6.2 this weekend. I have by now received updated versions for most of the plugins and also had a chance to do a test run with a 1.6.2 server, saw which ones are failing and seen new updates coming in for those, so it’s looking good. So most likely Saturday will be the time for the update, let’s hope everything will work!

Dynamite, Minecarts, etc
I have removed over 1000 minecRts from the server now and also heard that some players were toying with large scale TNT contraptions before the server crashed… I will monitor both uses from now on. Please be sensible, or I will have to disable some features.
MC Server back up!
I just re-setup the ramdisk (should automate that sometime…) and restarted the server. So it should be fine and running now. Not sure if the problems of the last 24 hours will be back.
To give you some background:
I was noticed by some users that there are some issues. Admittedly a bit late, I would be happy if you guys are more proactive with this. I think you guys are trying to be nice, but do not worry, if I do not have time, I will act accordingly. If the server is down or crashing repeatedly, please tell me. I won’t be mad at anyone.
So I check on the server and could not find anything specific. But I also found that some off-server processes (simple stuff, really) would take an intense amount of time. So I assumed that the hard disk might have some faulty places, since this kind of stuff normally takes a lot of time to read/write, but the processor and the rest of the system would appear to be fine.
So I created a file that would force a disk check on reboot and rebooted the machine. It’s impossible to run that during the machine running. I was not aware how long a check would take on 2 1TB disks, so I was not suspicious until I posted a question on reddit and finally contacted tech support who was also not able to connect to the machine. They rebooted it, did a file system check and did not have any issues as it seems. I then restarted the webserver through my mobile phone. I could not install the ramdisk howver since the SSH app on my phone is not really convenient. Since I am back at my laptop now, I could restart the MC server after setting up the ramdisk.
Now the only thing left is to check the file system logfile and to hope that the issues are resolved through the check. If not, we will have to disable maps one-by-one to find out where the issue is in the end. Let’s see. Please tell me if you see the same lag/kicks/reboots occurring.

I have now managed to restart the machine. Since I am on the way, I cannot restart the mc server right now, will do so when I get back to my laptop tonight (in 3-4 hours).
I have completed a file system check, and have yet to see the logfiles to see if there was an issue. If there was not, the search for the issue continues..
Server under repair…
I am trying to find and fix the issue that has been lagging the server over the recent 24 hours…
Since the map seems to be corrupted in one place or the other, I am now re-rendering the whole 3D map and see if that returns any spots with issues.
Traveling – please behave…
I will be traveling over the coming 3 weeks (half business, half private) and therefore can put only minimal attention on the server. Should something crash, please still send me emails etc as usual. But do not panic if I do not log on too often.
Skylands finally removed
After many attempts to slowly push people over the edge of a cliff without them complaining too much, I finally managed to coax everyone from the paradise-like skylands to the mob-infested hell-hole called “aether”.
Thanks to everyone who has participated early on and thanks to everyone else for finally moving yourselves :D. Just kidding of course.
I think I removed the skylands references from the code wherever I could. If you find it mentioned somewhere, please let me know.

“/withdraw all” finally enabled
I have now enabled the /withdraw all command. Please use with care for the coming days until we are sure that there is no bug in the system.
I also fixed the withdrawal of several items from a user or the lottery in case you do not have enough space for it. You should not get an error instead of items disappearing.
Pineben’s Medieval Docks contest
As some of you know, pinbenj is currently working on a medieval city in the kingdom world; heaven’s reach. He wants to give many of you the potential to make a lot of money.(potentially over 50 thousand uncs) The contest is for a docks/port district. 1.6 Update Notice
In the coming days, Mojang will release the 1.6 “Horse Update” with tons of very exciting new features and a new launcher. Finally, with the new launcher, you will be able to run several versions of minecraft from the same computer without extra tools.
What does the update mean for Uncovery Minecraft?
As usual, we will not be able to upgrade the same day the new version comes out. We will have to wait until the server software (Bukkit) and the most important plugins get fixed. Once this is done, we will upgrade as soon as possible. Please be patient until then!
Since this update does not include any new ores or features how the landscape is generated, there is no need to reset of the Darklands, Nether or other worlds.
I am a bit divided if we need a temp server again. While I understand that everyone will want to see the horses etc, we also have to keep in mind that version switching is now so much easier, that a temp server should not be needed anymore. Also, if we create a temp server with a new world again, what to do with it after the upgrade? If you guys remember, when we last time deleted a temp server map, people were VERY VERY upset about it. That’s why we started to delete the Darklands each time, and use the temp server map as the new darklands. We just had a new darklands map a few weeks ago however, and it feels almost too soon to get a new one already now.
So there are only two choices:
- Do not make a temp server for 1.6. If you want to ride a horse, please do so in single player
- Create a temp server for 1.6, delete the darklands of the main server once we upgrade and use the temp server map for that instead.
My preference is with option 1, since it’s less work, it keeps the community better together since people do not split over two servers, has less chances of crashes etc. Option 2 might cause some players to wander off to vanilla servers that offer 1.6 earlier than we can do. You input is appreciated in that matter.

Server back up – for now
The server is back up now for some time, but I have not found the place on the map yet that caused the problem. So there is a chance that this comes back.
Server temp. down
Sorry guys, the server is down. There is some part of the map which got corrupted and I am not at home to fix it. Once I get home, I will repair it, but until then, you will have to -GASP- go outside and do something in the fresh air….

There are new IRC Commands for the elders:
| /irc mute <player> | Mute a player in the IRC chat. This is not a timed mute, please unmute people later! Also this only prevents their chat from appearing in-game, they can still talk in IRC to other players. |

I have now finally gone through the contest entries and the winners are out. There is only one designer level user and the others are all architects or settlers. So I grouped the designer with the architects. Sleeping_owl also had the overall best entry

No 1.5.2 Update yet. Please downgrade!
I tried today to upgrade to 1.5.2, but it mainly failed due to a non-compatible multiverse plugin which runs all our inventories, portals and worlds.
For those who are new to the upgrade process, here is a recent email that I have sent out to someone who asked me to upgrade the server. I know this sounds like a rant, but I want people to understand that upgrading a client is nothing like upgrading a server.
I am aware that people like you who do not know how to downgrade then cannot play. And believe me, the last thing I want is to have an outdated server.
However it’s normally a several hour process. I have to wait for up to 25 plugin authors to update their software, download it, reconfigure several hundred lines of config files and then make several test runs to make sure everything works. However, if you go research plugins like Multiverse, which we need to run all portals, inventories and worlds, you will see that they did not release an official update since November last year. Not to mention the main server software, bukkit, which still failed to release a finished version since 1.4.7.
To make a long story short: I will upgrade as soon as I can. Right now, I cannot. People asking me to do so or even telling me that I should does not help.
You will have to learn how to downgrade, just like everyone else.
If you take even a fraction of the time it would take me to upgrade (which is not even possible right now), to learn how to use google and then to downgrade, you would be able play.
Fixed another corrupted lot!
I have just fixed another corrupted lot, the problem was the same as last time but this time it was riedi73’s. I reverted his lots to the status of 24 hours ago and the issue was solved…. no idea where these come from, I hope those get less once the final bukkit versions come out.
